A new concept launch by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) called IPTV (internet protocol television). It was named as Aksh-Tel, which was a combination of IPTV and V Spyk which is a video phone calling service. MTNL and Aksh OPtifibre will launch this service in collaboration.
In this strategic tie-up both are doing a different work, MTNL would be providing infrastructure whereas the partner company will be focusing upon content delivery network.
IPTV will be relatively cheaper than DTH services. Also, because of it being a new technology there are many opportunities to spread it and experiment with it for the purpose of improving services in the long run.
TV programming to viewers In IPTV technology. With the broadband and telephone services IPTV will be propose 102 channel. Other wooing features are video on demand and time shift television. MTNL has bonus benefit of being a first mover and having four million landline users at its disposal.
It will very delighted for users to have all three major services of telephone, broadband and television coming from a single line. There are no chances of rain playing havoc with IPTV connections. Another different possibility is choice of watching television channels on the PC without a TV tuner. IPTV is also the only service to provide time shift TV feature.
For smooth working of IPTV, it is necessary that telephone line must be Directly terminated on the splitter without any telephone connection before That. All similar telephones must be connected after the splitter. TV Set should have recent pin design for Audio Video or S- Video. In Case it is not available, customer has to provide BNC connector/AV converter Etc if required. Power Point is required near the TV Set and preferably with on/off switch so That Set Top Box can be switched off when not in use.
